The top trend, according to Google, was Paul Walker. The Fast and Furious star was killed in a car accident in November. The other notable trends include the Boston Marathon bombing, Nelson Mandela, Corey Monteith and the release of the iPhone 5s. Mandela and Monteith both passed away in 2013.

The most-searched events for 2013 were the Boston Marathon, the Government Shutdown, the MTV Video Music Awards. Also appearing on the list of popular events were the deadly tornado in Moore, Okla., and the birth of the royal baby.

Perhaps the least surprising of the lists is the one that outlines the most-searched individuals in 2013. Leading the way is singer Miley Cyrus, who twerked her way into headlines during the VMAs and later was named to the shortlist for Time Magazine‘s Person of the Year. The other individuals searched most often included musical artist Drake, Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber and Beyonce.
