Have a Safe Blast this New Year’s Eve

That includes people who set off firecrackers and other explosive pyrotechnic devices at their own parties, something that alarms the National Council on Fireworks Safety.

As a result, the group’s president, Nancy Blogin, advises party-goers that if there’s going to be fireworks to mark the New Year, they should be detonated by someone who hasn’t been drinking that night.

According to Blogin, this so-called “designated shooter” ought to be familiar with the fireworks, know the area where they’ll be set off, and thoroughly clean up the site afterwards by properly disposing of debris.

Again as a reminder, Blogin warns that alcohol and fireworks don’t mix, given the reports every year of drunken revelry that turns tragic.
