Long was injured on the Rams’ third offensive play in their victory Sunday over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Long dropped back in pass protection when his knee buckled, sending him to the ground.

No date has been set for the surgery but Fisher says it could be a while.

“With respect to the fact that also the MCL is included, surgery will probably be delayed four to six weeks,” Fisher said. “He takes very good care of himself. He knows and understands what’s ahead. Obviously he is shocked right now but he’s indicated to us that he’ll be back and good to go.”

The Rams are hopeful Long can return by the beginning of the next regular season or soon after that.

The 28-year-old Long is a four-time Pro Bowler. He signed a four-year, $34 million free agent deal with St. Louis last March.
