Jameis Winston Wins Heisman Trophy
Published at(NEW YORK) — Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston won the Heisman Trophy Saturday night in New York.
“I don’t even now what’s going on right now,” Winston said to ESPN shortly after winning the award. “Honestly, I’m just so happy…So overwhelmed by this thing man. I don’t even have anything to say. This is the first time I’ve been speechless in a longtime.”
Winston, 19, becomes the youngest Heisman winner ever. He also is just the second freshman to win the award — Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel did it last season.
Winston set freshman records in passing yards (3,820) and touchdown passes (38), while helping lead the Seminoles to a berth in the BCS National Championship game versus Auburn.
Winston destroyed the competition in the voting, earning 2,205 points. Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron came in second with 704 points.
