Woodley, who missed three games earlier this season with a left calf injury, strained his right calf in the first quarter of the Steelers’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday night.

Woodley has now missed 12 games due to various leg injuries since signing a six-year, $61.5 million contract with the team in 2011.

“He’s been solid, not only this season but over the course of his career,” Tomlin said Tuesday at his weekly news conference. “But obviously, particularly in recent years, he’s had to battle some injuries, unfortunately for him and for us.”

The 29-year-old Woodley has 36 tackles, five sacks and one forced fumble this season.

The Steelers signed linebacker Jamaal Westerman, who was cut by the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 10, to take Woodley’s place.
