LB Matthews Not Expected to Play in Packers’ Regular-Season Finale

Jeff Gross/Getty Images(GREEN BAY, Wis.) — The Green Bay Packers’ win-or-go-home game Sunday against the Chicago Bears could be even more challenging than previously thought.
Linebacker Clay Matthews reinjured his right thumb in the Packers’ loss to Pittsburgh Sunday and the feedback isn’t good.
“The training staff didn’t feel very good about the injury,” coach Mike McCarthy said Monday. “So we’re still working through the process.”
Matthews, who missed four games earlier this season after he broke the same thumb, was hurt while sacking Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
Despite missing four games, Matthews still leads the Packers in sacks with 7.5 this season. Matthews also has 41 tackles and three forced fumbles.
The Packers play the Bears at Soldier Field Sunday in a battle for the NFC North title. The loser of the game will be eliminated from playoff contention.
