(NEW YORK) — Louisville has dismissed junior forward Chane Behanan from the basketball program due to a violation of university policy, head coach Rick Pitino announced on Monday.
“He just did not do the right thing over and over and over,” Pitino said of Behanan.
The 6-foot-6 Behanan was averaging 7.6 points and 6.3 rebounds in 12 games this season. He has not been kicked out of the school, so he could either transfer or try and play professionally.
“I want to apologize for letting down my family, teammates, coaches, [athletic director] Tom Jurich, this university and the Louisville fans,” Behanan said in a statement released by the school.
Behanan was suspended during the preseason and kicked out of the dorms. Pitino said at the time that the forward may not return to the team; Behanan returned, but after missing the season opener. If the forward decides to transfer, he would only have less than one year of eligibility remaining.
