(NEW YORK) — Wall Street witnessed its best year since the mid-1990s, closing the books on 2013.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished the final trading session of the year up 72 points at 16,576.66 and gained l 27 percent overall in 2013. The Nasdaq Composite rose 22 points on the day closing at 4,176.59 with a yearly increase of 38 percent. The S&P 500 added 7 points ending at 1,848.36, boasting a gain of more than 30 percent for the year.
Both the Dow and S&P closed at all-time highs, with the Dow having its best year since 1995 and the S&P it’s best since 1997.
A Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller report released Tuesday showed home prices rising 14 percent since October 2012, though gains slowed in the last month, indicating they may be leveling off.
