(ROME) — Italy has lost its battle to temporarily bring the cherished Mona Lisa to its home city of Florence.
For the past 200 years, France has had the painting of the woman with the mysterious smile in the Louvre museum in Paris.
Florence wanted the Leonardo da Vinci painting back to be part of the 100th anniversary celebration of recovering it.
The painting was stolen in 1911 by an Italian employee of the Louvre, who wanted the painting to be brought back to Italy.
