N.Y. Yankees Deal Stewart, Sign Ryan
Published at(NEW YORK) — The New York Yankees traded catcher Chris Stewart to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday for a player to be named later.
In 109 games with the Yankees last season, the 31-year-old Stewart batted .211 with four home runs and 25 RBIs. Behind the plate, he threw out 17 runners.
Stewart is expected to battle in spring training with Tony Sanchez to be the primary backup to starting catcher Russell Martin.
The Yankees also announced on Monday that infielder Brendan Ryan has agreed to a two-year contract, with a mutual option for 2016.
