Sam Thompson had 14 points while Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 12 for Ohio State (7-0) which has now won its last 73 home games against unranked opponents.
Dez Wells scored 19 and Evan Smotrycz added 15 for Maryland (5-3), which had its four-game win streak snapped.
Ohio State raced out to a 17-point halftime lead, and Maryland never got closer than 14 points in the second half, as the Buckeyes finished the game shooting just over 52 percent from the field.
It was the first meeting between the two teams since 1985. Ohio State leads the series 4-2.
