Brooklyn’s victory made forwards Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett winners against former head coach Doc Rivers, who guided the pair to the 2008 NBA championship with the Boston Celtics.

“I’ll always have a special place for Doc,” Garnett said.

Deron Williams and Brook Lopez combined to score 31 points for the Nets, (8-14) who have now won three-straight.

Pierce scored 10 points off the bench for Brooklyn.  Even though he is no longer playing for Rivers, he says he will never forget everything he learned from him.

“I grew under him,” Pierce said. “I was a young player, played nine years with him, just continued to mature and become an all-around player under him. Before I was really known as a scorer and he took over and taught me the other parts of the game: the defense, the rebounding, the passing. He just helped my game grow and mature.”

The Clippers (15-9) were led by Chris Paul’s 20 points and two assists.  They jumped out to an early 23-10 lead, but the Nets fought back on their homecourt and held on for the victory.
