Pirates And RHP Charlie Morton Agree To Contract Extension
Published at(PITTSBURGH) — The Pittsburgh Pirates signed right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton to a three-year contract extension on Wednesday. The deal is worth $21 million, according to ESPN, and includes a club option for the 2017 season, which could make the total package worth $30 million.
Morton came to Pittsburgh via trade in June 2009 with the Atlanta Braves. In five seasons with the Pirates, he has compiled a record of 26-41 with a 4.49 ERA. He has struck out 341 batters in 514 2/3 innings of work.
In 20 starts last season, Morton went 7-4 with a 3.26 ERA, including 4-1 and 2.76 ERA in his final 11 appearances.
