PlayStation 4, Xbox One in Short Supply Weeks After Release
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One are still selling out around the country, weeks after their release.
In their first two weeks on the market, the new game consoles sold more units than any previous console — more than two million each, says DFC Intelligence, a San Diego game research firm.
High demand has left many stores without enough of the new consoles. The promise of advanced hardware and better graphics have led to huge sales numbers.
A Best Buy spokesman said that both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have been in short supply at their stores in the time since they were released in November. Best Buy reportedly had “limited quantities” of the Sony console available on Sunday.
Consoles have typically been in short supply in the weeks following their release, in part due to production constraints.
In contrast, sales of Nintendo’s new Wii U have been relatively weak. In what used to be a three console market dominated by Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, the latter has begun to fall off the pace of the two gaming giants.
