The Rays took a flier on Loney in 2013 after coming off a disappointing run with the Los Angeles Dodgers and most recently the Boston Red Sox.

Loney went on to hit a career-high .299 with 13 home runs and 75 RBIs. It was arguably his best offensive season since 2009.

The 29-year-old Loney also had the highest rate of line drives in the majors in 2013, and his .351 batting average on the road was also the highest mark in the Majors.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers were also said to be interested in signing Loney, but he decided staying in Tampa Bay was best for him.

With Loney, the Rays ranked 11th in Major League Baseball in runs scored, and 12th in batting average.
