Ericsson suffered the injury in Monday night’s game against the New York Islanders.  He went back to the locker room after colliding with New York’s Matt Martin.  He left the eventual 3-0 loss and did not return.

“Sounds like he’s going to be out awhile,” Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said on Tuesday. “I guess I would say 3-5 weeks if I had to guess.”

In 29 games this season Ericsson has scored one goal and dished out seven assists.  He also missed 10 games earlier this year with a shoulder injury.

The Red Wings (13-17-9) signed Ericsson to a six-year, $25.5 million contract in November.
