Red Wings Lose Zetterberg for at Least Two Weeks
Published at(NEW YORK) — The Detroit Red Wings will be without captain Henrik Zetterberg for at least two weeks due to a small herniated disc in his back, the team announced Tuesday.
The loss of Zetterberg means the Red Wings (14-7-7, 35pts) are now without their two leading scorers. Center Pavel Datsyuk is dealing with concussion-like symptoms.
Zetterberg missed time during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons with a herniated disc but this is a different disc.
“It’s similar spot, not the same disc,” said a somber Zetterberg as he spoke to the media Tuesday. “Hopefully I’ll be back sooner than last time. The thing is we just have to see. We’re going to take a couple of weeks here and then come back and evaluate it again and see if it’s going the right way.”
Zetterberg currently has 11 goals and 19 assists for a team-leading 30 points.
Center Corey Emmerton has been called up from Grand Rapids to take Zetterberg’s place.
