Forward Ryan Callahan left Tuesday night’s loss to the Nashville Predators with a Grade 2 MCL sprain.  He is expected to be sidelined anywhere from four to six weeks.

The 28-year-old Callahan suffered the injury while attempting to deliver a hit in the first period. He left the game and did not return.

This is the third injury this season that has caused the forward to miss time. Callahan missed the season opener with a shoulder injury after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum over the summer. He also missed seven games with a broken thumb in October.

“It’s been a tough stretch for him and we all feel for him,” Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi said. “Everyone has to step up a little more. He brings a lot to the team, a lot of different characteristics, and someone’s going to have to find a way to step up for him.

Callahan is in the final season of a three-year, $12.825 million deal with the Rangers.
