Stocks End the Day Lower

GETTY 121113 WallStreet?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1386801507376iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Stocks slipped Wednesday on weak corporate earnings reports. Analysts say the market may also be succoming to buyer’s fatigue after a big rally this year.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 130 points at 15,843.53. The Nasdaq Composite gave up 57 points to end the session at 4,003.81. The S&P 500 lost 20 points for the day, closing at 1,782.22.

Laboratory Corporation of America plunged 10 percent after cutting its full-year earnings forecast.

Joy Global, which manufactures mining equipment, tanked 4 percent after its lastest earnings numbers fell short of expecations.

A new survey shows a few big changes in the American workplace.

The Pew Research Center says in most cases, men still make more than women do for the same work, but the gender gap is narrowing.  Women now make an average of 93 cents for every dollar a man does.  

Salary may have been the top job consideration for baby boomers, but not for millenials.  The survey shows they value job security above anything else.
