Stocks Finish with New Record Highs

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — The mood on Wall Street is merry at the start of this holiday week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the broad measure of the market, the S&P 500, closed Monday at new all-time highs.
The Dow ended the day up 73 points at 16,294.61 – the 48th record close of the year. The blue chips closed up for its fourth consecutive trading day. For 2013, the Dow is now up close to 25 percent. The best year for the industrials since 2003.
The S&P ended the day up 9.67 points at 1,827.99. In 2013 the S&P is now up over 28 percent. The best year for the S&P 500 since 1997.
The NASDAQ also surged on Monday, closing at a fresh thirteen and a half year high of 4,149.
