Staffing company Spherion did the bulk of the work for bosses, figuring out what would best be appreciated by employees in survey of 970 U.S. workers.

More than nine in ten employees aren’t keen on so-called “typical” presents such as gift cards or candy. Rather, close to three-quarters would like cash, while 29 percent opt for an extra day off.

Spherion also found that more than half of the workers surveyed plan to give a gift to somebody in the office. While 36 percent plan on surprising a co-worker, 27 percent said they’ll bring in a gift for the boss.

As for how much they’ll spend, 44 percent said they won’t go over 20 bucks while 42 percent will spend more than $26 on a present.
