Houston (2-11) came into the 2013 season expected to contend for the Super Bowl.  They started the season 2-0, but have lost a franchise-record 11 straight game since then.  Their latest setback came at the hands of the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.

The 52-year-old Kubiak coached the Texans for eight seasons, guiding them to a 61-64 record.  He was the fourth longest-tenured coach in the NFL before he was let go.

Another issue for Kubiak this season was his health.  He suffered a “mini-stroke” on Nov 3. while walking off the field at halftime of their 27-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.  He returned to the team after missing one game.

Wade Phillips will serve as the interim head coach until Texans owner Bob McNair can find a permanent replacement.

Kubiak is the first NFL head coach to be fired this season.
