Seacrest, along with Jenny McCarthy in New York’s Times Square and Fergie on the West Coast, will usher in the new year on ABC with some of the year’s biggest music stars — including 2013’s most controversial star of them all: Miley Cyrus.

Cyrus will be performing live in Times Square right before the ball drops at midnight, which of course raises the question of whether the star plans to strip naked and climb aboard, just like in her “Wrecking Ball” video.

“I did imagine her using it as a wrecking ball,” McCarthy confessed to ABC News Radio. “She still might do a big surprise on stage, but I don’t think she’ll go that far!”

Seacrest, who added that the 21-year-old singer’s team “did send us a picture” of her outfit, added that that’s reason enough to watch. “I think people should tune in to see what she’s going to wear. It’s a dichotomy of things,” he said. “You know it’s going to be in the 20s, so you have to have something!”

In addition to Cyrus, the Times Square performers will include rappers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, New Wave icons Blondie, Swedish duo Icona Pop, and, live via satellite from Miami and Brooklyn, respectively, Pitbull and Billy Joel.

“For the first time ever, we’re doing Times Square live and bouncing around to different cities too,” Seacrest explained, adding that he’s especially excited to have Joel involved. “He’s never done it. This is the first time. It’s a real coup to have him!”

Over on the West Coast, viewers will see performances by Robin Thicke, Jason Derulo, Fall Out Boy, Jennifer Hudson, Enrique Iglesias, Daughtry, Capital Cities, The Fray and Ariana Grande, with Fergie as mistress of ceremonies for the eighth year in a row.

“I grew up with this show, watching it every year in our living room, it was just on. And it’s an American classic,” the new mom said. “We joke around…I might go on to the non-family-friendly side by accident…so we just have a good time and try to keep it fun and energetic, and it’s just part of my history.”

The Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2014 broadcast kicks off at 8 p.m. ET with a special on the 30 Greatest Women in Music, hosted by Jenny McCarthy and Fergie.
