(MCCAMMON, ID) – Multiple cases of whooping cough have been reported in McCammon. Area health officials say the bacterial infection is highly contagious and is preventable through routine vaccinations. In many cases, whooping cough starts out like a normal cold, but the severity of the coughs worsen over a period of several days. The Centers for Disease Control say that whooping cough is on the rise nationwide, including in the Gem State. Last year the infection took the life of a nine-week-old girl in Pocatello.
