(NEW YORK) — Dallas Buyers Club is one of the nominees for the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, presented by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
Dallas Buyers Club is nominated in the outstanding film — wide release category. In the movie, Matthew McConaughey plays an electrician and rodeo cowboy in the 1980s who’s diagnosed with HIV. The movie is nominated for multiple Oscars, including best picture, best actor for McConaughey, and best supporting actor for Jared Leto, who plays a transsexual who has AIDS.
The other nominees in the outstanding film — wide release category include Philomena and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
ABC’s Modern Family and Grey’s Anatomy, ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars, and the Fox series Glee are among the TV nominees.
The GLAAD Media Awards, which is presented annually in recognition of outstanding images of the LGBT community in the media, will be held as two ceremonies. The first one will take place in Los Angeles on April 12. New York will host the second ceremony on May 3.
