(Credit: Benicia Police Department)(BENICIA, Calif.) — A California elementary school teacher has been charged with three counts of food poisoning for allegedly bringing a pot-laced dish to a potluck.

Teresa Badger, 47, is accused of bringing a pot-laced dish to a dinner party with colleagues from the Matthew Turner Elementary School in Benicia on Nov. 21.

According to the Benicia Police Department, one colleague felt ill at the dinner and went to the hospital that night. Another felt ill the next morning and was found to have THC in their blood after they went to the hospital for treatment. THC is one of the main chemicals in marijuana.

“To make matters worse another partygoer took leftovers home and that person’s 15-year-old son ingested contents from the dish and developed symptoms,” Benicia Police Lt. Frank Hartig told ABC News.

After the three illnesses, the school board and the police department launched an investigation to the cause. Eventually they came to the conclusion that it was Badger who brought the tainted dish to the party.

Hartig said they could not elaborate on what the food was, except that it definitely was not brownies.

Badger was booked at the Solano County Jail on three felony counts of food poisoning. Her bail has been posted $15,000.

According to ABC station KGO-TV in San Francisco, at least one neighbor thought this was out of character for Badger.

Neighbor Dave Padilla told KGO-TV he has known Badger and her family for years.

“I know her as a person who is very, very kind and just a sweet individual and this just doesn’t fit. It really doesn’t fit,” Padilla said.
