The 34-year-old Branch caught 328 passes for 4,297 yards and 24 touchdowns while with the Pats. He also was named MVP of the 2004 Super Bowl after catching 11 passes for 133 yards in the Patriots 24-21 win over the Eagles.

So were the Colts looking for some inside information with the signing?
“We figured the questions were going to come up that we were signing this guy who spent some time in New England,” Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said. “Is it just a coincidence or do you need the guy to help you win a football game and help your team? Every decision we make is based on what’s best for this team and what gives us the best chance to win, and we think we have one heck of a football player.”

Branch actually lives in the Indianapolis area and played his college ball at the University of Louisville.

The signing helps a banged up Colts’ receiving corps, which lost Reggie Wayne for the season and will be without Darrius Heyward-Bey Saturday due to a hamstring injury.
