Former State Economist Pushing Alternative Budget

(POCATELLO, ID) – Former Idaho Chief Economist Mike Ferguson is making his rounds across the state promoting an alternative to Governor Butch Otter’s budget for fiscal year 2015. Ferguson doesn’t like Otter’s plan to put $71 million in reserve. Ferguson’s proposal would put half of that money in Health and Welfare to fund a Medicaid expansion under Obamacare, and another $35 million into the education budget. Citing the fact that the state already has $200 million in reserve, Ferguson believes investing in those two departments will make the state more efficient and saves Idahoans money in the long run.
