Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul Will Not Need Surgery

Scott Cunningham/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has a long offseason ahead of him as far as rehabbing the shoulder that plagued him all last season, but wont need surgery.
Pierre-Paul told Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger that he visited with Dr. James Andrews recently and that surgery will not be required on his shoulder.
Dr. Andrews expects to follow up with Pierre-Paul in roughly six weeks. He said his back was 95 percent healthy and that he is back to lifting weights. He also had surgery on his back in 2013 to repair a herniated disc.
The 2011 Pro-Bowler struggled this past season. He had 27 total tackles and just two sacks for the Giants, who missed the postseason for the second straight year after winning Super Bowl XVLI
The Giants need the 25-year-old Pierre-Paul to return to dominance in 2014. Fellow defensive lineman Justin Tuck is an unrestricted free agent, and his return to Big Blue is not guaranteed.
