Iran Starts Implementing Nuclear Deal
Published at(TEHRAN, Iran) — Iran has put the brakes on its most sensitive uranium enrichment work Monday as part of a landmark deal with world powers, easing concerns over the country’s nuclear program and clearing the way for a partial lifting of sanctions.
According to an Iranian state TV broadcast, Iran halted enriching uranium to the 20 percent level — which is close to bomb-making materials — by disconnecting centrifuges in Natanz.
The move is being applauded by a number of Western leaders, including Europe’s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who said: “This is an important day in pursuit of ensuring that Iran has an exclusively peaceful nuclear program.”
The process of diluting those high-grade stockplies has now begun, and in exchange, Iran receives sanctions-relief.
