Josh Brent Sentenced to 180 Days in Jail, Probation
Published at(DALLAS) — Former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Josh Brent was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years of probation Friday for a drunken car crash that killed his friend and teammate, linebacker Jerry Brown.
Brent was convicted Wednesday of intoxication manslaughter for the December 2012 crash that killed Brown. Brent was a passenger in Brent’s car when it crashed on a suburban Dallas highway.
Both Brent and Brown played together at Illinois, which explains their close friendship during their time in Dallas. They were driving home from a night out when Brent lost control of his vehicle and crashed. Officers arriving on the scene saw Brent attempting to pull Brown’s body from the wreckage.
It was later found that Brent’s blood alcohol content was at 0.18 percent on that night, which is more than twice the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent. He could have been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
