(NEW YORK) — Can Americans live without their favorite processed cheese for the next few weeks?
They may have to as Kraft Foods admitted to the media Tuesday that there may be a shortage of certain Velveeta products although the company wasn’t specific as to why the popular food might not be available in some areas.
Of course, this comes at a time when people will be hunkering down in front of their TVs to watch NFL playoff games leading to the Super Bowl, not to mention the Sochi Olympics in February.
Some cynics are speculating that Kraft may be manufacturing a crisis to improve sales of Velveeta when it does return in full force.
Used primarily in dips and filler in macaroni and cheese sauce, Velveeta’s ingredients are listed as follows: Milk, water, milk fat, whey, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, sodium phosphate; contains less than 2% of: salt, calcium phosphate, lactic acid, sorbic acid as a preservative, sodium alginate, sodium citrate, enzymes, apocarotenal (color), annatto (color), and cheese culture.
