“I’m still in my rookie contract and I’m happy to be here. And I’m pretty sure I’m going to be here for a long time,” Irving said.

The Cavaliers were expected by many to be a playoff team in the Eastern Conference this season, but instead they’ve been one of the more disappointing teams in the NBA as they sit at 16-30 through 46 games this season.

Recently, Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant ripped the team for their lack of effort and production. Despite multiple high first-round picks, the team has yet to put it together.

The 21-year-old Irving is averaging 21.6 points and 6.1 assists per game. His rookie contract expires following the 2014-2015 season.
