(BOISE, ID) – Idaho Republicans are pushing a $2 million initiative aimed at killing 500 wolves in the Gem State. Rep. Marc Gibbs of Grace believes reducing the state’s wolf population to only 150 animals would allow elk and deer herds to stabilize, and reduce predation incidents on livestock. Fish and Game officials estimate that there are about 680 wolves in Idaho. Democrats are opposing the plan primarily out of concerns about the overall cost, which would amount to approximately $4,000 per animal.
