Dawson broke his shooting hand after slamming it on a table in frustration during a film session Thursday morning.

Dawson will have surgery on the hand Thursday night.

“I’m crushed over what happened, for him,” Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo said. “Doesn’t change any of my goals. Doesn’t change anything I’m doing and it doesn’t change, really, whether we can win or lose.”

Dawson, a 6-foot-6 junior, is averaging 10.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for the third-ranked Spartans this season.

Michigan State (18-1, 7-0 Big Ten), which has won 11-straight, will take on No. 21 Michigan (14-4, 6-0 Big Ten) in Ann Arbor on Saturday.

“I’ll be ready around tournament time and I’m gonna come back,” Dawson told the Detroit Free Press. “I’m gonna do whatever it takes to help this team out on the bench, in the locker room, during the game, in practice, just to see those guys do great against Michigan and from here on out.”
