Navy Official Resigns After Allegations of an Inappropriate Relationship
(WASHINGTON) -- The U.S. Navy’s acting under secretary -- the number two civilian in the Navy -- has resigned over allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a female subordinate.
A Navy official said the allegations against Robert Martinage surfaced as part of an unrelated matter involving Martinage’s office. The official said “undisputed facts” came to Navy Secretary Ray Mabus’ attention this week “that caused him to ask for his resignation.”
“Mabus asked for the resignation following a loss of confidence in Martinage's abilities to effectively perform his duties,” the Navy said in a statement.
