Just this week, both Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and Toronto-born pop star Justin Bieber were the subject of headlines about their respective alleged behavior.

Ford was accused in a lawsuit of having his brother-in-law beat up in a Toronto jail to keep him quiet about Ford’s drug use. In recent months, he admitted to having smoked crack cocaine, and has been taped singing, ranting, mumbling, and stumbling around Toronto, steadfastly refusing to relinquish his seat as mayor.

Meantime, Bieber’s had a few run-ins with police south of the border, including an arrest last week in Miami for allegedly driving under the influence and drag racing (he pleaded not guilty) and another incident this month in Los Angeles for allegedly egging a neighbor’s house.  On Wednesday, Bieber traveled home to Toronto to turn himself in to police for an alleged assault charge.

Not to worry though, Ford has Bieber’s back.

“You know what, he’s a young guy,” Ford said in an interview Thursday. “At 19 years old I wish I was as successful as he was.”

“He’s 19 years old guys, think back to when you were 19, you know,” he said.

Ford is 44.
