(NEW YORK) — The NFL has opted not to have a pop star sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl this year. Instead, it has tapped opera star Renee Fleming to do the honors at the Feb. 2 game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
The New York-based soprano is a four-time Grammy winner who performed the national anthem before the second game of the 2003 World Series at Yankee Stadium.
Alicia Keys sang the national anthem at last year’s Super Bowl.
The upcoming Super Bowl, which will air on Fox, will feature a halftime performance by Bruno Mars.
