(BOISE, ID) – Gov. Butch Otter has announced that the Idaho Correctional Center south of Boise will now be under state control following a decade of mismanagement and corruption involving a private contractor. The Tennessee-based Corrections Corporation of America was given $29 million annually to run the 2,080-bed facility. However, after state and federal authorities began investigating fraud and the prison, CCA opted to not renew this year’s contract. Otter, who has previously championed privately-run prisons, made the decision after consulting with the state Department of Corrections.
