At a Sunday morning briefing, Howard County Chief of Police Bill McMahon said that the shooter was officially identified as Darion Marcus Aguilar, 19. Late Saturday night, the two victims killed in the shooting were identified as Brianna Benlolo, 21, and Tyler Johnson, 25.

Aguilar allegedly used a 12 gauge shotgun on Saturday, firing between six and eight shots.

A search warrant was issued for Aguilar’s home on Saturday night, McMahon said. “A number of items,” including a computer, were seized.

Authorities believe Aguilar killed himself after shooting and killing the the two victims. Five additional people were reportedly receiving medical treatment for injuries, but only one of the five suffered a gunshot wound.

On its Twitter account, the Howard County Police Department said that the gunfire took place in a skate shop called Zumiez on the mall’s upper level. Police say a search of the shooter’s bag found inside the store revealed two crude devices that appeared to be an attempt at making explosives using fireworks.

Police were still unable to discuss a potential motive for the shooting.

The mall is expected to re-open on Tuesday.
