(SEATTLE) — Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates is back at home after being treated for an injury resulting from a fall at his home.
A statement from his office Thursday said Gates fell at his home in Washington State Wednesday evening and “fractured his first vertebrae.” Gates, who retired from his post as secretary of defense in 2011, received treatment for his injury at hospitals in Mount Vernon, Wash., and Seattle and is expected to make a full recovery, the statement said.
Though Gates will have to wear a neck brace while his injury heals, his office says he is well enough to forge ahead with his book tour to promote the release of his new memoir Duty, due on Jan. 14.
