“At this point, Omer is very likely going to be here until the end of his contract at the end of next season, not this season,” Rockets general manager Darryl Morey told HoopsHype.

“We pushed to trade Omer in December,” Morey added. “We felt we had to make a fair and aggressive effort to do that. Obviously he’d prefer to be a starter.”

After playing sparingly with the Chicago Bulls his first two seasons in the NBA, Asik came to the Rockets with hopes of playing to his true potential. But once the team signed free agent center Dwight Howard, Asik’s playing time has been slashed this season.

Asik has played in just 17 games this season and is averaging 4.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

Last season, Asik averaged 10.1 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.
