(TAMPA, Fla.) — The Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a two-year contract with free agent closer Grant Balfour on Thursday, worth $12 million.
This will be Balfour’s second stint with the Rays. He previously played for them from 2007 through 2010, when he compiled a record of 14-7 along with a 3.33 ERA in 203 relief appearances.
After his time in Tampa Bay, Balfour spent the next three seasons with the Oakland Athletics. Last year, he went 1-3 with a 2.59 ERA along with 38 saves.
Balfour previously agreed this offseason to sign a two-year, $15 million contract with the Orioles, but Baltimore pulled back on its offer following his physical exam.
