“Single Ladies'” Denise Vasi Finally Shares Wedding Details

Laretta Houston for VH1 (NEW YORK) — Denise Vasi wed music video director Anthony Mandler last year, but now the Single Ladies star is finally spilling the beans about the intimate affair.
“When me and my husband — my fiancé at the time — sat down to talk about the feel and vibe of the wedding, we both agreed that we are non-traditional people and we didn’t want anything at our wedding to feel traditional,” the 30-year-old tells ABC News Radio.
The couple, who met on the set of Lil Wayne’s “How to Love” music video, got married at Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, California, in October of 2013. Jennifer Hudson sang while Vasi walked down the aisle and DJ D Nice worked the turntables at the pair’s wedding reception.
Vasi says for their honeymoon they trekked to different countries in Africa. “Everything on that trip was so specifically different and magical. I loved every single moment of it,” she gushes. “We started off in Mnemba, which is an island off of Zanzibar. And you literally could walk this island in 15 minutes. And there was just the staff and the six bandas, which are villas — that’s how you say it over there in Swahili — and that’s it. And we didn’t put on shoes for five days.”
Vasi’s new husband has directed music videos for Jay Z, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, just to name a few. The actress reveals that she is very influential on who Mandler works with.
“He’s got a joke that he won’t do a song I don’t like now,” Vasi explains. “Because I’ll literally be in the other room and someone will send him a song to listen to. I’m like, ‘Don’t do it! Don’t do it! That sounds wack.'”
Vasi stars in VH1’s Single Ladies, which airs Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
