The 31-year-old Sizemore will make $750,000 in base salary and could make up to $6 million with performance bonuses.

A three-time All Star, Sizemore hasn’t played in the major leagues since 2011 due to various injuries. Sizemore has had seven surgeries since 2009, including microfracture surgery on both knees.

“We added Grady because, one, he’s available and, two, it provides some competition,” Farrell said. “We have to see once we get to spring training, Grady’s tolerance physically. We don’t have a projected number of games that we look at that he might be available for. We have to gradually build that up, build his endurance up. That’s how spring training will be spent with him.”

In eight major league seasons Sizemore has hit .269 with 139 home runs, 134 stolen bases to go along with a .357 on base percentage.
