The art piece showed the Catholic leader flying through the air with a white cape billowing behind him as he clutched a bag labeled “values.” Mauro Pallotta, who put up the mural on Monday, told Italian newspaper La Stampa that he portrayed the pope as such because “he is human and he’s humble but he’s a superhero.” Pallotta compared Pope Francis to the comic book heroes of Marvel, who use their powers for good.

The graffiti was created on paper then glued to a wall in the Borgo neighborhood. Workers scraped the artwork off on Thursday.

Earlier in the week, the Vatican gave its seal of approval to the “Super Pope” by sharing photo of the piece with its 85,527 followers on Twitter. More than 2,000 people retweeted the picture from the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.
