Hours before his swearing in ceremony, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee said he would focus on helping those Americans who are unemployed, uninsured and hungry. In particular, McAuliffe said that returning military members would be better taken care of, saying that he will “honor their sacrifice by insuring that they have access to the education, health care and career opportunities that they deserve.

“Know that my top priority will be to lay the groundwork for a diverse and growing economy in every single region of the commonwealth,” McAuliffe said at the ceremony on Saturday.

McAuliffe was joined at the ceremony by former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
