Weekly Jobless Claims Dip to 330K Ahead of Jobs Report

glegorly/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) — Jobless claims rolled into the New Year continuing to inch toward 300,000, the Labor Department reported on Thursday.
For the week ending Jan. 4, the number of people filing for benefits dropped by 15,000 to 330,000. The previous week, claims stood at 345,000 — an upward revision of 6,000.
The four-week average also went down, decreasing by 9,750 to 349,000.
Americans will get a better picture of how the job market fared last month when the Labor Department releases its monthly employment report at 8:30 a.m. ET Friday. The unemployment rate currently stands at 7 percent.
On Wednesday, payroll company ADP released a survey showing that 238,000 jobs were added in December.
