(WICHITA, Kan.) — No. 3 Wichita State (29-0; 16-0 MVC) defeated Drake (14-14; 5-11 MVC), 83-54 on Saturday night to win the Missouri Valley Conference championship.
Shockers junior guard Tekele Cotton scored a team-high 21 points while junior forward Darius Carter and sophomore guard Fred VanVleet contributed 15 points apiece.
Drake took a 15-14 lead with 9:18 left in the first half when junior forward Trevor Berkeley scored on a layup. But Wichita State went on a 17-3 run to close the first half with an 31-18 lead.
