(POCATELLO, ID) – The Pocatello Planning and Development Department is allowing some residents to appeal plans for a new Islamic mosque. People living within a block of the proposed location at an old Mexican restaurant on South Fifth Avenue cannot oppose the mosque strictly on religious grounds. The congregation wants to take out the kitchen, update the interior, and repair the parking lot to accommodate up to 40 vehicles. Those filing appeals have to demonstrate a possible negative impact, such as a decrease in property values. Appeals must be submitted by the end of the month.
